Electrical and electronics department was started in 1997 when the former branch of staff training was transformed to a Technical Training Institute (KIHBT). The Department has one sections namely:

•    Electrical  and Electronics engineering (Power option)
The courses offered in the Department are Higher National Diploma and Diploma levels and are examined by Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC). We cater for students who wish to pursue their courses in Full-time, Part-time and Evening programs.

The department has a Staff of eight Lecturers, and a population of over 100 trainees. We are embracing the Competence Based Education and Training (CBET) for the diploma classes. In response to market demands, we have a training program that runs for four weeks during holidays for first years whereby we expose our trainees to more practical work. This has helped the learners acquire more skills.

OBJECTIVES

•    To equip trainees with relevant technical skills, knowledge, attitude and values to enable them serve as electrical technologists in the construction Engineering industry.
•    To produce electrical technologists to meet the market demand
•    To develop research skills in Electrical/Electronic technology
•    To promote creativity and innovation in technology

COURSES AND TRAINING IN THE DEPARTMENT

•    Higher National Diploma in Electrical and Electronic Engineering(power option)
•    Diploma in Electrical and Electronic Technology - Power Option (Modular)

FUTURE DEVELOPMENT PLANS FOR THE DEPARTMENT              

To develop the training of renewable energy mainly Photo Voltaic Solar in addition to the mainstream courses specializing in Power option courses that attract the majority of the students.
