INTRODUCTION

The Civil Engineering branch is a one of the Pioneer Branches of KIHBT. It started offering Diploma Courses in 1997. 

Since inception, the Branch has successfully mounted the following courses under certification of the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC).

• Diploma in Civil Engineering (3 years)
• Diploma in Land Survey (3 years)
• Higher Diploma in Construction (2 years)
  
  Highway Engineering option.
  
  Building Economics option.
  
  Building and Civil Engineering option.
  
  Structural Engineering option

These courses are offered in both the regular mode and on part time basis and are taught by highly experienced and qualified staff.
Besides classroom sessions, students are exposed to laboratory work and industrial attachment to give them a hands-on competency upon graduation. Part of the training is carried out in partnership with the Material Testing and Research Division of the Ministry of Roads and Transport. In the final year of study, students carry out Trade project and Business plan assignments under supervision to introduce them to research methodologies enabling them to explore knowledge beyond what was imparted during formal contact.

With the mandate derived from the presidential executive order No.1 of 2023, the branch is in progress of mounting diploma and short courses in GNSS, Cartography and GIS ,Photogrammetry and remote sensing ,Construction contract management, Water engineering, engineering geology, Material science and Traffic management in the near future.

Objectives 

1. To equip trainees with relevant technical skills, knowledge, attitudes and values to enable them serve as professional technical personnel in the infrastructure development sector.
2. To produce technicians and Technologists to meet the market demand
3. To promote creativity and innovation in Engineering and Technology
4. To develop research skills in both Engineering & Technology
