ICT BRANCH
The ICT function was initially under the Electrical and Electronics Branch of the institute; however with the growing demand for ICT skills, it became necessary to create a Branch to specifically deal with ICT from the year 2006.
The Branch offers the following courses:
- Diploma in computer studies
- AutoCAD
- Basic Computer Applications
- Tailor Made courses such as Roads Maintenance Management System (RMMS) for engineers
The courses are mounted either as short courses or under the regular programme mode. Certificates for the diploma courses are awarded by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC), and those for other courses are awarded by internally the institute.
The Basic Computer applications certificate is recognized by government ministries and parastatals for officials seeking promotion.
The branch also provides training in ICT units as a service to students enrolled in other Branches of the Institute.
Other than the training function, the Branch assists other Branches by ensuring that ICT equipments are properly maintained.
Objectives
- To ensure that every member of the institute is IT complaint.
- To equip trainees with relevant technical skills, knowledge, attitudes and values to enable them serve as professional technical personnel.
- To promote creativity and innovation in Information Technology
- To develop research skills ICT
